U.S. Supreme Court term begins with healthcare law on radar
By Kimberly Atkins

As the U.S. Supreme Court gaveled in its October 2011 Term on Monday this week, it seems more likely than ever that the justices will take up the challenges to the federal health care law and its individual mandate before the term ends in June.
Over the past week more certiorari petitions have been filed asking the Court to weigh in on the matter - including one from the Obama administration seeking review an 11th Circuit decision that struck down the individual insurance coverage mandate as violative of the Commerce Clause.
On Friday last week, the Commonwealth of Virginia asked the Court to decide whether states have standing to challenge the health care law, bringing the total number of health care petitions to five, SCOTUSblog's Lyle Denniston reports.
