Firm presents 2012 Labor Law Update

Nemeth Burwell PC's Raising the Bar, an educational series raising employer awareness of current issues in employment and labor law, will address developments in labor and employment law that will change certain aspects of how business is conducted in 2012 at its Wednesday, Jan. 25, Labor and Employment Law Update. Nemeth Burwell's Patricia Nemeth says increased activities by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will be a leading driver of change in the workplace in 2012 and the update session will look at the flurry of recent NLRB actions and their implications. "The NLRB increased its presence in non-union workplaces in 2011 through its rapidly developing case law on social media policies, concerted activity and its attempts to require almost all employers to display union notice posters," explains Nemeth. "That will continue to impact employers in 2012, especially as they learn that even relatively new HR policies may already be outdated due to the significant amount of recent NLRB cases." In addition to the NLRB, other seminar topics include: * Laws impacting our nation's veterans as they return to the workforce. * Social Media Policies: How far is too far? * The Michigan Supreme Court Weighs In on Sexual Harassment and Whistleblowing: Did it just get harder to sue your employer? * The Department of Labor Continues the Crack Down: Could you survive a wage and hour audit? * The Unites States Supreme Court: How the Supreme Court redefined intentional discrimination, class actions, and the scope of arbitration agreements in 2011. * Litigation Trends: The workplace defamation suit and other atypical causes of action. The seminar will be conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. at the Troy Marriott, 200 W. Big Beaver Road.
