Police say ex-church official embezzled $650K
PONTIAC (AP) -- The former chief financial officer at Trinity Baptist Church in Pontiac has been charged with embezzling $650,000 from the church over the past six years.
The Oakland County sheriff's office says in a news release Reuben Bynum is charged with three counts of embezzlement over $100,000. Each count carries up to 20 years in prison and a restitution requirement of up to three times the amount of the money taken.
The 61-year-old West Bloomfield Township resident was arraigned last Thursday in district court and released on a $50,000 personal bond.
A woman who answered the telephone at Bynum's home last Friday morning said "there is no comment."
Police say Bynum was let go from the church in August after the missing money was discovered.
A next court date hasn't been set.
