Bullard announces more Ask the Lawyer Days
Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Bill Bullard announced two new dates for the popular Register of Deeds Ask the Lawyer Day--Tuesday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Register of Deeds office at 1200 N. Telegraph in Pontiac.
"People come into our office all day long with basic legal questions," Bullard explained, "But though many times our staff knows the answers, they are prohibited from giving legal advice, no matter how mundane or simple it may be."
Ask the Lawyer Day is the result of a conversation between Bullard and Southfield Attorney Altinia Latinis, of the firm Latinis, Fakhouri PLC, after she visited the Register of Deeds office on business. Upon hearing the kinds of simple questions that customers had to seek out an attorney in order to get answers, Latinis offered her services on a regular pro bono basis as a public service.
Latinis is an experienced attorney who is knowledgeable in real estate law. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Her firm, Latinis Fakhouri PLC specializes in business law.
"I think this is a wonderful public service Altinia is offering," Bullard said. "This service has been very successful and the people she helps are very appreciative. We have expanded this from a trial program due to the success it has seen and hope to open it up to other attorneys who have the time and expertise-and who want to give back to the community in this way."
Attorneys who wish to participate can contact David Mroz at the Oakland County Register of Deeds Office via email at mrozd@oakgov.com.
