Mental exam for suspect in deadly family attack
PONTIAC (AP) -- A trial judge has ordered a competency exam for a 19-year-old suburban Detroit man accused of beating his father to death with a baseball bat and trying to kill his mother and brother.
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Shalina Kumar ruled Tuesday that Tucker Cipriano undergo an examination at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry to determine if he's competent to stand trial. He's due back in court Sept. 4.
Cipriano is charged with murder and attempted murder for the April 16 attack at the family's Farmington Hills home. A witness says Cipriano was high on synthetic marijuana.
Fifty-two-year-old Robert Cipriano was killed and his 51-year-old wife Rose and their 17-year-old son Sal were seriously injured.
Kumar made the ruling at a hearing for Tucker Cipriano and 20-year-old co-defendant Mitchell Young.
