Transportation help for area senior citizens announced
Oakland County Commissioner Helaine Zack welcomed Mobility Project Coordinator Roberta Habowski of Area Agency on Aging 1-B, who gave a very informative and insightful presentation about the new mobility management service, myride2, at the Oakland County Board of Commissioners' Thursday, June 21, meeting.
The myride2 is a transportation concierge designed to help seniors and the disabled adults in Oakland and Macomb Counties find transportation to get where they need to go. This mobility management and multi-lingual service, myride2, is easy to access by calling toll-free 1-855-myride2 (855-697-4332) or by going to the website-myride2.com. Residents can speak to a mobility specialist or log on and make a transportation request online.
This is a free service, but there are a variety of costs associated based on the provider and specifics of the person's transportation needs. The transportation fees are determined by the transportation providers that myride2 coordinates the transportation options for users.
"When the Oakland County 'Silver Tsunami' report was issued in 2010, transportation was a primary concern. This new seniors transportation program is truly needed in Oakland County," Zack said
Sharing her sentiment, Habowski, expressed, "For seniors and adults with disabilities, finding transportation to doctor appointments, the store, or simply to visit a friend, can be one of the biggest challenges when striving to maintain their independence. The AAA-1B is proud to offer this new service that helps to eliminate the challenges, simplify the process and help keep individuals stay mobile for life."
Zack, (D-representing the communities of Huntington Woods, Oak Park and Royal Oak Township and a portion of the City of Southfield in District 22), has been an advocate on behalf of seniors serving as the Oakland County Senior Coalition Chairperson.
