Board recognizes and welcomes new state fair
On Thursday, Aug. 23, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved resolution #12206, voting 24-0, in favor of welcoming the Great Lakes State Fair and supporting the leaders, partners and sponsors of the new Great Lakes State Fair which promotes Michigan's agricultural heritage--a heritage that dates back to 1849 when the first Michigan State Fair was established.
After a three-year hiatus of the Michigan State Fair, which is recognized as one of the oldest state fairs in the United States, the Great Lakes Agricultural Fair was formed to maintain the state's rich agricultural tradition and the legacy of the original Michigan State Fair.
This reemergence of the fair will bring family fun and promote the agricultural industry of Michigan. It will be hosted at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi during Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.
Tonight, Oakland County Commissioner Kathy Crawford will honor the fair by presenting a framed resolution to the Great Lakes State Fair organizers at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi beginning at 6:30 pm.
