12 local attorneys listed in '2012 Super Lawyers'

Twelve Ann Arbor attorneys have been named "super lawyers" or "rising stars" in the 2012 Super Lawyers rating service of outstanding lawyers. Honorees are chosen from more than 70 practice areas and have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. The complete Michigan list represents no more than five percent of all lawyers in the state. The rising star category recognizes the top up-and-coming attorneys in the state who are 40 years old or younger or have been practicing for 10 years or less. Smith Haughney Rice & Roegge Two of the 13 Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge attorneys selected for inclusion in the 2012 Super Lawyers listing are from the firm's Ann Arbor office. Both Dale L. Hebert and Edward R. Stein were honored in the category of personal injury defense: medical malpractice. Schiff Hardin LLP Schiff Hardin LLP/Ann Arbor partners Gregory L. Curtner, Frederick R. Juckniess and Robert J. Wierenga have been voted "2012 Michigan Super Lawyers" in the antitrust litigation category. Also, three attorneys were named 2012 Michigan Rising Stars: partner Kimberly K. Kefalas in the antitrust litigation category; associate Jessica A. Sprovtsoff in the business litigation category; and associate Suzanne L. Wahl in the general litigation category. Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione Steven L. Oberholtzer, managing partner of the Ann Arbor office of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, has been named a Super Lawyer in the practice area of intellectual property law in the seventh annual survey. James K. Cleland and Michael N. Spink, also shareholders in the Ann Arbor office, and associate John A. Lingl, were named rising stars. Oberholtzer's practice focuses on patent and trademark counseling, corporate intellectual property policy development and administration, technology licensing, joint development and joint venture relationship agreements. Cleland, named a rising star in intellectual property litigation, specializes in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition litigation in a broad range of technologies including the chemical, materials science, mechanical and medical device arts, as well as in client counseling, opinion and licensing work in those same areas. Named a rising star in intellectual property, Spink chairs the firm's intellectual asset management group, and is a certified licensing professional (CLP) with experience in complex transactions involving intellectual property, including due diligence, disposition, valuation and bankruptcy issues. John Lingl, named a rising star in intellectual property, focuses his practice on patent, copyright and trademark litigation.
