Long Term Care Partnership recognizes local organizations

Oakland County Long Term Care (LTC) Partnership recognized eight organizations for their efforts to improve response capability during public health emergencies. Organizations were measured by their participation in partnership meetings, electronic communication network response, and in practicing their emergency response plans. The following LTC facilities were recognized last month: * Bortz Health Care of Oaklands. * Botsford Commons Senior Community. * Boulevard Hills Health Center. * Canterbury on the Lake. * Clarkston Specialty Healthcare Center. * Lake Orion Nursing Center. * Lourdes Senior Community. * Woodward Hills Nursing Center. "In a county with 1.2 million residents, there is greater success in reaching all residents and employees during a public health emergency when all systems in a community work together," said Oakland County Executive, L. Brooks Patterson. "The LTC Partnership is committed to ensuring the most effective response possible during emergencies." "In times of emergencies, it is essential that healthcare agencies remain in operation," said Kathy Forzley, Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) manager/health officer. "The work our LTC partners have done over the past year lays the foundation for being able to remain in operation to serve a vulnerable population." The Oakland County LTC Partnership was established in 2011 by the OCHD to strengthen community emergency preparedness and response, create strong communication links with LTC facilities and assist with emergency planning, disease prevention and protection, and training exercises. The certificates and plaques were presented to the LTC facilities by Oakland County Board of Commissioners Vice Chairman Jeff Matis. "I would like to commend the Oakland County Health Division for creating the Long Term Care Partnership Committee, which has strengthened our community's emergency preparedness. This is a model practice that should be adopted throughout the State of Michigan," said Matis. One of the greatest achievements of the LTC Partnership has been the partners' participation in the development of a Closed POD (Points of Distribution) Toolkit as part of Oakland County's Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI). The Closed POD toolkit helps facilities organize emergency planning strategies for remaining in operation at the time of a wide scale biological event.
