Former River Rouge school official found guilty of bribery
RIVER ROUGE, Mich. (AP) -- A federal jury has found a former River Rouge school official guilty of a bribery and mail fraud scheme that cost her suburban Detroit district $160,000.
U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade says the jury found Dolores Reid guilty last Thursday after a two-day trial before Detroit U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman.
McQuade says the 53-year-old Southfield woman was the River Rouge schools' director of state and federal programs and accepted thousands of dollars for steering business to a business that tutored students under the No Child Left Behind Act.
The prosecutor says Reid falsely told parents of students entering River Rouge High School that the program was mandatory.
McQuade says the state Department of Education took back the money, costing River Rouge schools $160,000.
Sentencing is March 19, 2013.
