Mich. bars Ohio woman from credit union industry
LANSING (AP) -- An Ohio woman charged with embezzling $2.1 million from a credit union has been barred by the state of Michigan from working in the credit union industry.
The Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation made the announcement Tuesday about Sharon Broadway.
State prosecutors say Broadway stole money for more than 20 years through the use of aliases and forged checks. Many certificates of deposit were not recorded.
The Toledo, Ohio, resident was the sole employee of United Catholic Credit Union in Temperance near the Ohio boundary
Defense attorney Lorin Zaner declined comment Tuesday.
Broadway faces arraignment Friday in Monroe County Circuit Court.
She was her own boss at United Catholic Credit, which had more than 200 members from Roman Catholic churches in Monroe County. Deposits were insured up to $250,000.
