Man gets up to 40 years in dad's death in Warren
WARREN (AP) -- A suburban Detroit man has been sentenced to 12 to 40 years in prison in the beating death of his father.
Jason Kinnie pleaded no contest to a charge of second-degree murder last month. He was charged in the 2011 slaying of 61-year-old Donald Kinnie, whose bloody body was found in the bathroom of his home in Warren.
Authorities say Jason Kinnie killed his father following a fight, and the son's lawyer tells the Detroit Free Press his client was drunk at the time.
Prosecutors say that after killing his father, Jason Kinnie hid in the attic for hours before police found him with a heat-seeking device and camera.
Kinnie was sentenced Wednesday in Macomb County Circuit Court. He was given credit for about two years of time served.
