Husband pleads guilty in death of 360-lb. wife
MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) -- The husband of a 360 pound Michigan woman has pleaded guilty to a felony abuse charge in the death of his bedridden wife.
Authorities say 37-year-old Michael Brooks ignored Yolanda Reese-Brooks and let her fester in a bed surrounded by her own waste. The 40-year-old Warren woman died of morbid obesity and other injuries in October.
Prosecutors say Brooks was his 40-year-old wife's primary caretaker after a 2011 auto crash crushed her pelvis and ruptured her bladder. She weighed about 360 pounds when an emergency crew wearing protective gear removed her from the apartment.
Brooks pleaded guilty last Thursday in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens to second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult.
Sentencing is March 13, and prosecutors say guidelines call for a sentence of 10 to 23 months.
