Woman convicted of drowning grandson
MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) -- A 63-year-old grandmother from suburban Detroit who stood trial three earlier times in the bathtub drowning of her 4-year-old grandson has been convicted of first-degree murder in her fourth trial.
A Macomb County Circuit Court jury on Monday convicted Terry Borgia in the January 2010 death of DeAngelo Tobia. It happened at a Clinton Township apartment that Borgia shared with her adult daughter, the boy's aunt.
A trial in December ended with a hung jury. Two earlier mistrials occurred before the case went to the jury.
First-degree murder carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without possibility of parole. Sentencing is April 17.
