Lawsuit over Oakland Co. child killer case tossed

DETROIT (AP) -- A lawsuit seeking $100 million in damages by the mother of one of four children killed in southeast Michigan during a 13-month period in the 1970s has been dismissed. U.S. District Court Judge Denise Page Hood dismissed the lawsuit over the Oakland County child killer case last week, saying it lacked merit. The lawsuit filed last year by Deborah Jarvis, of Petoskey, said that the Oakland County prosecutor, sheriff's department and state police withheld information about the case. Her 10-year-old daughter Kristine Mihelich of Berkley was among those slain. Jarvis also wanted the Justice Department to investigate. The law enforcement agencies argued they had immunity from being sued in the matter. Other children killed between February 1976 and March 1977 were 11-year-old Timothy King and 12-year-olds Mark Stebbins and Jill Robinson. Published: Mon, Apr 1, 2013
