Area students slated to meet officials at Youth in Government Day

On Monday, April 22, beginning at 8:30 a.m., the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will welcome high school students at the Annual Youth in Government Day program in recognition of National County Government Month. The program will begin in the Board of Commissioners' Auditorium located at 1200 North Telegraph Road. Area high school 10th-12th grade students from Auburn Hills, Milford, Pontiac, Southfield, Waterford, and White Lake will meet county government officials. They will learn first-hand about the political process as part of the 33-year youth leadership development tradition of the county. Students will meet members of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, view the Board's General Government Committee, and meet other county-wide elected officials. Oakland County officials, who have committed to participate throughout the day, include Circuit Court Chief Judge Nanci J. Grant, Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard, and Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown. Oakland County Board of Commissioners' Chairman Michael J. Gingell will join the elected county-wide officials for the County Leaders Panel which will be moderated by Oakland County Corporation Counsel Judith Cunningham. Students will visit the courtrooms of Circuit Court Judges Nanci J. Grant and Leo Bowman and view the sheriff's mobile and technological equipment. Published: Thu, Apr 4, 2013
