Health worker guilty of $5.8 million fraud
OAK PARK (AP) -- The office manager for an Oak Park-based home health care agency has been convicted in a multi-million dollar scheme to defraud Medicare.
The U.S. attorney's office says a federal jury in Detroit on Wednesday found 27-year-old Nabila Mahbub guilty of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
Mahbub worked for All American Home Care Inc., just north of Detroit. She's the 20th person convicted in the scheme.
Authorities say false or fraudulent claims of skilled nursing and physical therapy were made to Medicare. Patients were recruited and paid to take part in the scheme and fake medical records were created.
Medicare paid out more than $5.8 million between September 2008 and November 2009.
Mahbub faces up to 10 years in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled on July 25.
