Federal court to discuss jury selection changes at Law Day event

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan announces significant changes to its juror selection process, which includes a revised Juror Selection Plan newly certified by the Sixth Circuit Judicial Council. These changes are the result of a study undertaken by jury consultant Paula Hannaford-Agor of the National Center for State Courts, and the findings and recommendations of the Court's Ad Hoc Jury Committee. In a recent Chicago Tribune news article, Hannaford-Agor described the changes as among the most comprehensive of any federal court in the country. As part of its Law Day ceremonies on Wednesday, May 1, the court will be hosting a town hall discussion titled "Why Diversity Matters and the Importance of Jury Service" at noon in Courtroom 100. Panelists include Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen, Judge Denise Page Hood, Judge Victoria A. Roberts, Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Davis, and Chief Federal Defender Miriam Siefer. The panelists will discuss the court's efforts to increase minority juror representation and overall juror participation.
