Ann Arbor attorney nominated for ABA Antitrust Section Council member

Steven J. Cernak, of counsel in Schiff Hardin's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Group, has been nominated to become a council member of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law for a three-year term beginning in August. Cernak is one of five Section members to receive the Council Member nomination. "We congratulate Steve on his well-deserved nomination and his recognition by the ABA Section of Antitrust Law as a national leader in competition law and policy," said Gregory L. Curtner, leader of Schiff Hardin's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Group. Cernak, who works in Schiff Hardin's Ann Arbor office, has practiced antitrust law for nearly 25 years. Currently, he advises Schiff Hardin clients in various industries on antitrust matters and teaches antitrust law at Wayne State University Law School, Thomas M. Cooley Law School and University of Michigan Law School. He also is a frequent author and regularly provides thought leadership on antitrust issues to various business and industry media. Prior to joining Schiff Hardin, Cernak spent 23 years practicing antitrust and trade regulation law at General Motors. He served as lead competition law counsel for GM globally and lead counsel for GM's Service Operations and Fleet Operations in the United States. He also managed GM's responses to lemon law and breach of warranty lawsuits across the United States from 1999 to 2012. ABA Section of Antitrust Law Council Member nominations are made by the section's nominating committee and will be submitted for vote at the section's business meeting at the August 2013 ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Cernak currently co-chairs the Section of Antitrust Law Corporate Counseling Committee and will remain in that role until August.
