County continues digital winning streak with latest recognition
Oakland County is ranked among the top 10 most digitally advanced counties in America for the ninth year in a row in the 2013 Digital Counties Survey by the Center for Digital Government (CDG). The survey is conducted by CDG, Government Technology magazine, and the National Association of Counties. It evaluates counties on their ability to maximize services and improve transparency through the strategic use of technology.
"Oakland County's IT team has an ongoing commitment to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services," Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. "Our innovative cloud computing initiative is improving efficiency here in Oakland County, as well as in communities around the nation."
CDG's Executive Director Todd Sander said that technology plays a role in improving a county's bottom line.
"Counties are focused on saving money where they can by simplifying their information technology infrastructure and sharing systems with other governments," Sander said. "Many of them have found ways to provide better information security, transparency and citizen engagement with innovative uses of social media and advanced decision support tools."
Oakland County ranked higher than nearly all the counties with a population of 500,000 or more.
"Oakland County is expanding its technology vision beyond successful technology collaborations with local communities, the State of Michigan, and other government agencies in the Southeastern Michigan region." said Oakland County Deputy Executive/CIO Phil Bertolini. "Being recognized as one of the most technologically advanced counties in America validates our focus on the importance of technological collaboration."
