Ferndale, Jackson could vote on marijuana in Nov.
FERNDALE (AP) -- Proponents of legalizing marijuana say voters in two Michigan cities could decide in November whether to decriminalize the drug.
The Detroit Free Press reports organizers collected signatures to put proposals on city ballots in Ferndale and Jackson. The Coalition for a Safer Michigan says the votes could make marijuana possession in those cities no worse than getting a traffic ticket.
If the proposals get on the ballot and pass, they would put city ordinances on the books that reduce possession of marijuana to a civil infraction from a misdemeanor.
A number of other Michigan cities already have passed similar ordinances. Efforts are underway to collect signatures in Lansing as well.
Michigan voters approved marijuana for some chronic medical conditions in 2008.
