Local dentist to pay $125K in drug probe

BLOOMFIELD HILLS (AP) -- A dentist accused of writing hundreds of prescriptions for unnecessary drugs has agreed to pay $125,000 to close an investigation by federal regulators. In a statement Tuesday, the government says the deal doesn't protect Marc Kamp from a criminal probe. The agreement signed by Kamp says there was no legitimate medical purpose for anti-anxiety drugs and painkillers given over a four-year period. The agreement says Kamp failed to inform federal regulators about brief suspensions of his Michigan dental license. The government says a six-day suspension in 2009 was due to Kamp's conviction for ethnic intimidation. A message seeking comment was left for Kamp's attorney.
