Oakland Probate Court suspends eFiling project
The Oakland County Probate Court will be suspending its eFiling pilot project effective March 17. This suspension will include all current eFile cases. The court will process documents received into the eFile system by 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 14. Documents in current eFile cases must continue to be eFiled until that time. Beginning Monday, March 17, all filings will return to standard paper filing. No additional cases will be assigned to eFiling as of March 3.
The suspension of the Oakland County Probate Court eFiling pilot does not in any way effect the 6th Circuit Court's eFiling program. All circuit court eFiling remains the same.
The purpose of the eFiling pilot was to determine the viability of eFiling in the Oakland County Probate Court. The decision to suspend the project was taken unanimously by the bench after much thought, discussion and analysis, considering the input of the system's users, court staff and the pilot judge. There are many aspects of the system that work well and that are a distinct benefit of eFiling. However, there are also significant issues that cannot be resolved at the present time in a manner the court believes is satisfactory.
This decision is in no way a reflection on Tyler Technologies, the eFiling system or eFiling itself. Rather, the decision is based on issues specific to probate and particular aspects of electronic document management. Moving forward, the court will be looking for ways to resolve those issues.
If anyone has questions about managing the end date of the program, contact Rebecca Schnelz at 248-858-5603 or Jill Koney Daly at 248-858-0282.
