Michigan, 43 states settle with GlaxoSmithKline

LANSING (AP) - A multinational drugmaker is paying Michigan, 43 other states and the District of Columbia $105 million to settle complaints that the company unlawfully marketed three drugs. Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced Wednesday that Michigan's share of the settlement is $2.6 million. The settlement resolves allegations that London-based GlaxoSmithKline illegally marketed Advair, Paxil and Wellbutrin for purposes that hadn't been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. GSK is prohibited from disseminating information that describes any so-called off-label use. The asthma drug Advair is Glaxo's best-selling product. Paxil and Wellbutrin are antidepressants.
