Year in jail for funeral director for embezzlement
STANDISH, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan funeral home owner who took money from his customers' prepaid contracts has received a one-year jail sentence.
The office of Attorney General Bill Schuette says a district judge in Standish on Wednesday placed Richard Weishuhn on one year's probation, the first year of it in jail.
Schuette spokeswoman Joy Yearout says the judge also ordered that the 68-year-old make $611,000 in restitution. Weishuhn is the former owner of R.O. Savage Funeral Chapel, and Yearout says current owner David Ramsey will cover the restitution by honoring all prepaid funeral contracts.
Weishuhn pleaded guilty in May to one count of embezzlement over $100,000 and one count of embezzlement over $50,000.
