Probation for ex-Michigan receiver Darryl Stonum

PONTIAC (AP) - A judge has sentenced ex-Michigan wide receiver Darryl Stonum to three years' probation for assaulting his girlfriend in suburban Detroit. The Stafford, Texas, native played 36 games for Michigan in 2008-2010, with 1,008 yards receiving and six touchdowns. The Wolverines dismissed Stonum in 2012 for breaking team rules, and he transferred to Baylor. On June 25, an Oakland County Circuit Court jury convicted Stonum of felonious assault and domestic violence. The charges involve attacks in Southfield in 2013. Judge James Alexander issued the sentence Wednesday, also ordering Stonum to perform 500 hours of community service. Alexander told the 24-year-old that he's a "huge disappointment" who "had it all." In court Wednesday, Stonum said he loved his ex-girlfriend and knows he's been "a big disappointment to her" and his family. Published: Fri, Jul 18, 2014
