Firm donates 500 smoke alarms to Detroit fire dept.
Farmington Hills-based Fabian, Sklar, & King PC, a law firm specializing in representing victims of fires and explosions, recently announced that they have donated 500 10-year sealed lithium battery operated smoke alarms to the Detroit Fire Department (DFD) to help raise awareness for Fire Prevention Week, which takes place Oct. 5-11, 2014. Michael Fabian, founding shareholder of Fabian, Sklar, & King, made the announcement.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, the world's leading advocate of fire prevention, the presence of working smoke alarms cuts the risk of dying in a home fire in half. This is the fifth year that Fabian, Sklar & King has donated smoke alarms to the DFD to help provide these life-saving tools to members of the community at no cost in an effort to reduce the number of injuries and deaths as a result of fires. Complimentary smoke alarms are available to members of the Detroit community by contacting the DFD, who will personally install the alarms in homes or replace existing ones that are no longer working completely free of charge.
"Smoke alarms are one of the best tools available that individuals and families can utilize to help prevent serious injury or death due to a fire," said Fabian. "Having a working smoke alarm in your home-and checking it regularly-is a critical component of home safety and security so that your family can be alerted in time in case of a fire emergency."
Kidde, the manufacturer of the smoke alarms, donated an additional 100 units to the DFD, bringing the total number of smoke alarms donated to 600. To request the installation of a smoke detector, citizens can contact the Detroit Fire Department at 313-596-2900. To learn more about Fabian, Sklar, & King PC, visit www.fabiansklar.com.
