Preliminary exams set in street artist's slaying

DETROIT (AP) - A judge has determined that two of three young men are competent to stand trial in the robbery and killing of a French street artist whose body was found in the ruins of an abandoned Detroit public housing project. The Detroit News reports that preliminary examinations will be held Dec. 23 for 17-year-old Dionte Travis, 18-year-old Jasin Curtis and 20-year-old Drequone Rich. Each is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Bilal Berreni. Evaluations were reviewed last Friday for Curtis and Rich. Last Wednesday, a teenager accused of helping rob and kill Berreni was found competent for trial in Juvenile Court. The artist from Paris was found July 29, 2013, shot in the face.
