Police report 3 killed in Mich. holiday crashes

LANSING (AP) - The Michigan State Police say car crash fatalities over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend have decreased to three deaths this year from 12 last year. Police said Tuesday the three people killed last week included a pedestrian, a vehicle driver and a vehicle passenger. They say one crash involved alcohol. Capt. Kari Kusmierz says the numbers reflect the fatalities from Nov. 26-30 reported to the state police as of 9 a.m. Monday. Troopers used federal traffic safety funds to conduct high-visibility enforcement over the five-day holiday period to reduce impaired or careless driving and speeding. The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning coordinated the funding from the nationwide effort to reduce accidents. Published: Fri, Dec 05, 2014
