Discount available for Adult Hockey Tournament
Adult hockey teams can save $50 by registering now for the seventh annual Oakland Edge Adult Hockey Tournament, which is set for April 17-19, 2015.
The early bird discount is available until Jan. 31, 2015, for the tournament at the Onyx-Rochester Ice Arena. Online registration is open at www.OaklandEdge.com. The tournament is open to both men and women. After Jan. 31, team registration increases to $795. Teams are guaranteed a minimum three games and those who make it to the finals will play five games.
"The Oakland Edge has grown each year, especially in the Women's and the Sled divisions, with sled teams coming from Canada, Pittsburgh and western Michigan to play last year," Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. "It's a great weekend of recreation. This is a chance for teams to register early and save a few dollars."
Male players must be at least 21 years old before the tournament begins to participate in the "A" division and 30 years old for the other four divisions B, C, D and 50 and over. Participants in the women's division Upper and Lower must be at least 21. Athletes in the co-ed Sled Hockey division must be at least 15 years old.
Teams play three 15-minute running time periods. Each team is limited to 18 players and all players must be registered with USA Hockey. Players on the winning and runner-up teams receive individual awards as well as a team trophy. Each tournament participant receives a souvenir Oakland Edge T-shirt.
The tournament is sanctioned by USA Hockey and the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association #MIT 140201. Complete tournament rules are available at www.OaklandEdge.com.
The Oakland Edge is sponsored by Perani's Hockey World and Warrior. It is presented by Oakland County and Oakland County Parks.
