Zoo attendance exceeded 1 million visitors in 2014
ROYAL OAK (AP) - Annual attendance at the Detroit Zoo has surpassed one million visitors of the ninth consecutive year.
The zoo in Royal Oak saw an increase in attendance last year, with 1,363,949 guests in 2014, compared to 1,304,114 in 2013. The annual holiday light display, Wild Lights, drew more than 100,000 guests.
The executive director and CEO of the Detroit Zoological Society says good weather, Wild Lights attendance and continued improvements in operations and facilities helped contribute to the increase in annual attendance last year. The society is a nonprofit organization that operates the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Zoo.
The Cotton Family Wolf Habitat is expected to be a popular attraction when it opens at the Detroit Zoo this spring. The zoo will also offer its biggest Dinosauria exhibit featuring 40 animatronic dinosaurs this summer.
