Bicentennial celebrated

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan. In 1815, President James Madison appointed Solomon Sibley as the first U.S. attorney for the Michigan territory. To commemorate the bicentennial, an open house was hosted Wednesday, September 30, at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Levin Federal Courthouse in Detroit. Current U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade (left) was happy to welcome guests and former assistant U.S. attorney and office historian Ross Parker (right) to the celebration.  Parker, who was the criminal chief in the office for 8 years and wrote a book on the history of the office called “Carving Out the Rule of Law,” made a brief presentation and showed off portraits of past U.S. attorneys who served the office.
