Late UAW official's wife in court on tax charges

DETROIT (AP) — A federal judge has entered a not guilty plea for the wife of a former United Auto Workers vice president on conspiracy and tax charges alleging a multiyear scheme to reward her and her late husband with first-class travel, designer clothing and jewelry.

Monica Morgan Holiefield was released on $10,000 unsecured bond following her arraignment Monday. The Detroit News reports she agreed to turn in her passport and her concealed pistol license as conditions of her bond.

The 54-year-old Harrison Township woman was indicted with former Fiat Chrysler executive Al Iacobelli last week in connection with an alleged conspiracy also involving UAW vice president General Holiefield, who died in 2015.

Monica Morgan Holiefield’s attorney, Steve Fishman, declined comment after the hearing.
