Ecorse no longer under state oversight

ECORSE (AP) — A Detroit suburb that has struggled with poor finances has been released from state oversight.

Ecorse officials have regained full control over the city's budget and internal operations. The state Treasury Department announced the step Monday.

Ecorse had been under the eye of an advisory board for nearly five years. A state-appointed emergency manager ran Ecorse for 3 ½ years until spring 2013.

Mayor Lamar Tidwell says, "Ecorse is ready to govern on its own." The state says Flint and Hamtramck are the only cities with oversight.
