Mayor gives up office space for interns

FISHERS, Ind. (AP) — A suburban Indianapolis mayor is giving up his office space this summer to make room for a group of interns.

The Indianapolis Star reports Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness moved his office to a hallway at City Hall. He's working from a table and chair.

Nearby, five young people have laptops, cellphones, water bottles, energy drinks and backpacks on Fadness' desk and across a conference table in the mayor's actual office. He says the recent high school graduates needed room to work.

Fadness says he's rarely in his office during the summer, so "it didn't make sense to leave it empty most of the day."

One intern serves does research on government policy and assists the mayor, often attending events. The four other interns work in the communications department.
