County Water Resources commissioner to serve as lecturer at film discussion
On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash will participate as a guest lecturer for the Green Film series featuring "The Devil We Know" film. He will speak about the issue of PFOS following the showing and lead the public discussion. The film will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Birmingham, UCC, located at 1000 Cranbrook Road in Bloomfield Hills.
Nash states, "It is great to see local community groups put on events like this to inform the public about important environmental issues. I'm happy to be a part of this and I am looking forward to an interesting discussion."
As more becomes known about, the man-made perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS). PFAS, PFOA, and PFOS are part of a group of chemicals that have been used in manufacturing, firefighting, household products and many consumer products since the 1900s.
