Groups to advise Michigan agency on regulating marijuana

LANSING (AP) — A state agency is creating four groups to come up with suggestions on regulating marijuana in Michigan.

The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs says one of the panels will represent those already licensed under the Medical Marijuana Facilities Licensing Act who are interested in entering the adult-use marijuana market.

Another will represent cities and towns that are considering allowing licensed adult-use marijuana facilities in their jurisdictions.

Other groups will be for attorneys representing marijuana establishments who have an interest in the adult-use market, and for individuals or businesses who want to participate in the adult-use market as a future license holder or a consumer.

Those would like to join one of the groups have until March 4 to send an email expressing interest.

Court gives green light to lawsuit over fatal traffic accident

EAU CLAIRE. (AP) — The Michigan Court of Appeals says a jury should decide whether an adult foster care facility contributed to the death of a 59-year-old man who was killed by a pickup truck.

Michael Wrenn was dressed in dark clothes and walking alone on a Berrien County highway on Christmas Eve 2014. Wrenn had a history of mental illness and had spent much of his life in assisted living centers.

His family says staff at the Eau Claire Adult Foster Care home should not have let him walk out on a cold, rainy late afternoon. But the foster home says it was required to follow Wrenn's treatment plan and give him freedom of movement.

The appeals court said a jury in southwestern Michigan can decide whether the home breached the standard of care.

Moove on: No more ‘cow-tipping’ shirts at Oklahoma airport

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The mayor of Oklahoma City is celebrating the completion of a personal mission: ridding the city's airport of cow-tipping T-shirts.

Mayor David Holt said on his Twitter account that after months of trying to end sales of shirts reading “Nothing Tips Like A Cow” at Will Rogers World Airport, the clothing has sold out and won’t be restocked.

An aiport spokesman said the shirts with the shape of the state and a cow lying on its back were “pretty popular,” but that "the joke has run its course."

Cow-tipping is a largely debunked legend in which rural youths sneak into a pasture at night and push over a cow that is standing but asleep. Debunkers point out the practice is unlikely to succeed, largely because cows don't sleep standing up.

Mystery man spends $540 on Girl Scout cookies, warms hearts

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A mystery man is being hailed as a hero for buying all the cookies some Girl Scouts had for sale, saying he did it so they wouldn't have to stand outside anymore.

South Carolina mother Kayla Dillard said on Facebook that the man paid $540 in cash for all the girls' cookies, saying he did it “so y’all can get out of this cold” outside a store near Greenville, South Carolina.

WYFF-TV reports that the man posed for a picture with two Scouts after buying their cookies, but no one got his name.
