The Michigan Center for Civic Education (MCCE) is hosting a fundraising Law Day event, Trivia for Civic Education, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 30 in the Michigan Room, Gannon Building, at Lansing Community College’s Downtown Campus, 422 N. Washington Square, Lansing, 48933. Teams are invited to participate in the game that will include legal, political and Constitutional questions.
“The MCCE is looking forward to hosing this fun event to help benefit Civic Education in Michigan,” said MCCE Executive Director Ellen Zwarensteyn. “We invite members of the law community, trivia buffs and law enthusiasts to join in a friendly trivia game.”
The trivia night is being held in conjunction with Law Day festivities. The Law Day theme set by the American Bar Association this year is Free Press, Free Speech and Free Society.
The cost to attend the trivia event is $100 per person. Current teachers and students can purchase tickets for $75. Tickets can be purchased at www.miciviced.org.
The event is being held in conjunction with other Law Day festivities including visits by Mary Beth Tinker, who was involved with the court case, Tinker v Des Moines Independent School District (1969) that ruled in favor of First Amendment rights for students. The case was brought to court when a group of students in Iowa wore black armbands to school during the Vietnam War.
MCCE is a non-partisan 501(C) 3 corporation, dedicated to preparing an active and informed citizenry through law-related and civic education. It hosts programs throughout the year including Law Day festivities, the Michigan High School Mock Trial, We the People, Project Citizen, Educating for Citizenship and the James Madison Legacy Project.
