A new edition of an American Bar Association book, “The FCPA and U.K. Bribery Act: A Ready Reference for Business and Lawyers,” explores anti-bribery statutes in the United States and the United Kingdom and is must read for lawyers and others doing business abroad.
Written by Vivian Robinson, Stuart H. Deming, and Truman K. Butler, the book is a concise explanation of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the U.K. Bribery Act. Its detailed, easy-to-follow bullet points provide a checklist of the various factors and steps that should be considered in implementing an effective compliance program to adhere to the laws of both countries and minimize legal liability.
Management and staff of businesses, nonprofit organizations, and other entities engaged internationally should find this book helpful in their decision-making and practices. In addition to providing an excellent primer on the key aspects of the FCPA and the U.K. Bribery Act, the book provides a handy reference guide when questions arise.
The authors have expertise on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Robinson, who is based in London, advises clients on the U.K. Bribery Act, as well as compliance on white-collar crime matters involving global fraud and corruption, including the FCPA.
Deming, who is based in Washington, D.C., represents and advises clients on the FCPA, the U.K. Bribery Act, Canada’s Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act and other compliance issues related to the conduct of international business.
Butler is an international transactions attorney, who has been actively involved with a range of compliance issues for major financial services firms. Based in Marietta, Ga., he has law degrees from universities in both England and the U.S.
