Commonwealth Care Alliance® (CCA), a national, multi-state healthcare organization with proven expertise in complex care coordination and delivery, has completed its majority stake acquisition of Michigan-based Reliance Healthcare.
Through the acquisition, members of Reliance Healthcare, which serves nearly 20,000 individuals across seven counties in the southeastern part of Michigan, will be introduced to CCA’s uncommon care model. This unique model delivers better health outcomes through seamless integration, a community focus and an emphasis on the behavioral and social determinants of health that account for so many critical gaps in care. As part of the acquisition, Reliance Healthcare will eventually become known as CCA Health Michigan.
“This acquisition advances our vision of transforming the nation’s healthcare for individuals with the most significant needs and we are thrilled to introduce our pioneering, proven and perfected care model to Michigan for the first time,” said CCA President of Markets Courtney Murphy. “The dedicated physicians and healthcare leaders at Reliance share our mission-focused approach, and we are excited for the opportunity to merge our experience and expertise in innovating, coordinating and providing the highest-quality care for those who need it most.”
“We created Reliance to deliver superior primary and specialty care for communities in Southeastern Michigan and break down the barriers that too often stood between our patients and a healthier life,” said Dr. Nazmul Haque, CEO and founder of Reliance Healthcare, who will continue to play a prominent leadership role in the organization, and in the community. “By joining together with Commonwealth Care Alliance, we can better deliver on this mission.”
Through this acquisition, Reliance members and patients will be able to access CCA’s uncommon care model, which has been demonstrated to improve quality and health outcomes and enhance the member and patient experience.
Based in Boston, CCA is a multi-state integrated care system influencing innovative models of complex care nationwide. CCA recently began a multi-year, mission-aligned geographic diversification growth strategy to extend its care model throughout the U.S. and now serves more than 62,000 individuals and operates health plans in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, and Michigan.
