Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel was presented with LACASA’s Changemaker Award during her visit to the agency Wednesday.
“I greatly appreciate this recognition and accept it on behalf of the entire team of hardworking individuals at the Department of Attorney General who share my passion for fighting on behalf of survivors of abuse,” Nessel said. “Too often survivors experience feelings of shame and isolation, but I’m here to remind them that we believe you, you are not alone, and we will fight to secure justice for you.”
Throughout Nessel’s term, she has aggressively pursued the clergy abuse investigation and launched the Boy Scouts of America investigation.
Nessel made the visit to LACASA to commemorate Denim Day, which is an international day to raise awareness around sexual assault and combat victim blaming.
This week is Crime Victims' Rights Week and the final week of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Nessel began the week by emphasizing the important work being done to protect crime victims and hold their perpetrators accountable at the Department of Attorney General.
Wednesday evening, she attended the Crime Victims’ Rights Vigil hosted at the Capitol.
