In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan is hosting a series of self-defense classes around the state to raise awareness.
On Saturday, October 22, the WLAM will present a class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Krav Maga Detroit (https://kravmagadetroit.com) located at 950 W, Maple Rd., Suite D, in Troy.
Krav Maga is the official hand to hand combat system of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In Israel, men and women serve in the armed forces. Krav Maga is what they learn.
Krav Maga is simple to learn. It’s instinctive. It leaves a mark. Attendees will learn how to fight when it’s their worst day and how to use their bodies so each strike matters. Participants should dress in gym clothes, clean shoes, and bring water and a snack.
During the class, there will be a focus on the core essentials. Attendees will learn:
• Movement
• Stance
• Posture
• Eye contact / proximity
• Confidence in movement
• Strikes - open palm, punches, elbows
• Kicks - groin
• Defenses against chokes
There will be time for questions and answers as well.
Cost for the class is $35 per person and there are no refunds.
