Attorney to discuss 'Jury Selection' for CDAM May 19

The Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan will present an in-person program on “Jury Selection: They Like Us, They Really Like Us!” Friday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 o.m. at  Macomb Community College, University Center Building, located at 43901 University Drive in Clinton Twp.

Presenting at the program will be Mariell Lehman, the owner of Lehman Law Firm PLLC in Shelby Township.

“Picking your jury is arguably the most important part of a jury trial,” Lehman  said.  “I’m a firm believer that if a jury doesn’t like me, they’ll never like my client and in cases where our clients are accused of some of the most serious offenses in our society – being liked is imperative. There are a number of things that I do during jury selection to try to get the jury to like my client and I and also to build relationships with the jurors. This session will discuss some of the tactics that I use as well as discussing ways to build relationships with potential jurors.

Lehman attended undergrad at the University of Michigan and attended law school at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. She opened her own law firm focusing on criminal defense a month after getting licensed and has worked defending the rights of those accused of some of the most serious criminal acts ever since.

Lehman is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Macomb County Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM), and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). She is admitted to practice in the federal court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
