Child support and Department of Corrections focus of webinar

The Michigan Judicial Institute, in collaboration with the Friend of the Court Bureau, the Office of Child Support, and the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC), is pleased to offer a 90-minute webinar for friend of the court office staff and other Michigan child support program staff. "Unlocking Solutions: Real Talk with Parents Navigating the Child Support System after Spending Time with the Michigan Department of Corrections" will take place Thursday, August 24, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. via Zoom.

This webinar will feature the lived experiences of a panel of parents who have both a Michigan child support case and a past criminal justice system case specifically on probation or parole through the MDOC. Panelists will recount their child support program experiences, diving deeper into what has been most confusing, difficult, harmful, or helpful.

Attendees will leave this session with real examples of how case actions have impacted parents and the whole family. Attendees will also gain a better understanding of how MDOC requirements either align with or contradict child support program actions.

The session will conclude with discussion about best practices to benefit criminal justice-involved parents and their families.
