The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s Violence Against Women Project will present a webinar on “Uniting Three Fires Against Violence” Monday, November 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. via Zoom.
Uniting Three Fires Against Violence (UTFAV) is a statewide tribal domestic violence and sexual assault coalition serving the tribes located in Michigan. Its mission is to support Michigan tribes in promoting the social change necessary to address the
disproportionate rates of violence impacting our communities.
In this presentation, UTFAV focuses on historical trauma and the broad impact on tribal individuals, families, and communities. In addition, the presentation includes information related to current issues impacting tribal sovereignty and access to justice, safety, and healing for Native Americans.
The presentation will feature Rachel Carr-Shunk, executive director of UTFAV, and Sandra Pilgrim-Lewis, UTFAV DVS project director for the program. In honor of Native American Heritage Month (November), the webinar welcomes and honors the work and contributions these two women have made in promoting change and improving the lives of those in the Native American community as well as the nation as a whole.
This free webinar is open to prosecutors, advocates, and law enforcement. It satisfies 2 hours of continuing legal education for purposes of PAAM’s best practices recommendations.
