County Executive Coulter makes appointments

Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter has appointed Sara Gold to the newly created position of Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives Officer.

In this role, Gold will serve as a liaison for philanthropic partnerships including private foundations, non-profits, and other non-governmental funders. She will work to increase the visibility of the county’s public-private, grant-funded initiatives and increase philanthropic funding for county priorities.

“Partnerships with community organizations are an essential way we can provide a wide array of critical services for our residents,” Coulter said. “Sara’s vast experience in the non-profit sector, including helping us administer federal COVID relief grants that have helped hundreds of thousands of Oakland County residents, is a perfect fit to help us continue this important work.”

Gold said she’s eager to help Oakland County explore opportunities to expand and improve access to services and programs.

“Funding from the philanthropic community can help us to pilot and evaluate new ideas, leverage existing funds to strengthen impact, and fill gaps that would otherwise remain unfunded,” she said. “I’m excited to work with departments and stakeholders across the county to learn where good work needs additional support and to partner with the philanthropic community to meet our shared goals.”

Before joining Oakland County, Gold spent time as a strategy and social impact consultant for the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors with the Monitor Institute by Deloitte, a small social impact-focused team within Deloitte. She also spent more than 10 years with the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, overseeing the department responsible for health and basic needs-related grant fundraising, annual grant-making and stewardship, and community impact programs in Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland counties. Sara is a member of the 2022 Class of the Oakland County Executive’s Oakland Together 40 Under 40.

Gold earned a bachelor’s degree in social relations from James Madison College at Michigan State University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan.

Coulter also has appointed Jeanne Broad as the director of the Economic Development Department.

In this role, Broad will lead five divisions that conduct business development and international business attraction, community development and planning, workforce development, transit, and veterans’ services.

“Jeanne is a recognized leader in economic development and international trade that will serve Oakland County extremely well,” said Coulter. “She has traveled the world on behalf of the county and helped attract investment from all sectors of the economic spectrum.”

Prior to her appointment to the director’s job, Broad was the manager of domestic and international business attraction for the county.

She also worked for the State of Michigan in several economic development positions, including director of international trade and international business advisor, where she worked to promote the growth and development of Michigan firms and key industries. Previously, she worked in government relations for General Motors in positions including director of international trade and manager of the General Motors Public Interest Report.

“Selling Oakland County as a prime location for small businesses, advanced manufacturing and a hub for the mobility industry of the future is a top priority for the Economic Development Department,” Broad said. “The outstanding quality of life, skilled workforce and partnerships we have with the state, federal and local governments are a winning combination for companies looking for a place to call home.”

Broad is a longtime member of the Michigan East District Export Council and a current board member of the British American Business Council of Michigan
She is a graduate of Duke University, the University of California-Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy, and the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
