DNA direct exam workshop provided

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM) Violence Against Women Project and Child Abuse Prosecution Resources units will present a free interactive online workshop on “Direct Examination of the DNA Analyst” Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. via Zoom for prosecutors only.

Space is limited in each session to allow each attendee the opportunity to do a full direct examination of an MSP DNA analyst utilizing case material and lab reports with feedback from the trainers and lab personnel. Each attendee will be provided with case material (pediatric or adult sexual assault) before the training (including the lab reports/case summary, SANE chart and MSP DNA pre-recorded presentations).

Attendees are expected to read and be familiar with the case material. Direct exam will be based of the material provided/assigned.
Additional prerequisite material will be provided.  Attendees are expected to view the case material and prerequisite material (pre-recorded MSP webinars on DNA processing and Interpretation).

Attendees are expected to conduct a direct examination on screening or body fluid identification, DNA processing, and StrMix interpretation.

This training satisfies 7 hours of continuing legal education for purposes of PAAM’s Best Practices Recommendations (attendance at half day session plus review of the prerequisite recordings).

This training is supported by a VAWA and VOCA award. This award was made to the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Victim Services.
