Forging Paths: MSU Law Alumnus and Aspiring Sports Entertainment

In the realm of sports and entertainment, the intersection of law and passion often defines the trajectory of careers. For many, the journey starts with education, but it’s the determination and guidance along the way that truly shape the future. Such is the story of an MSU Law alumnus who traversed the intricate paths of the sports entertainment industry, now offering insights and mentorship to a current MSU Law student with similar aspirations.

Meet Daniel Kim: The MSU Law Trailblazer

Daniel Kim, a 2015 graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Law, epitomizes the fusion of legal expertise and sports entertainment acumen. With a passion for sports, Kim envisioned a career that seamlessly combined his legal prowess with his love for athletics.

During his tenure at MSU Law, Kim distinguished himself not only academically but also by actively seeking opportunities in the sports entertainment area as President of the Sports Entertainment Law Society. Post-graduation, Kim’s
journey took him to Radegen Sports, a New York based Sports and Entertainment agency, as General Counsel.

When thinking of his own career path, Mr. Kim gives credit to his law school days, saying, “Michigan State University College of Law’s curriculum and support propelled me to pursue a career in sports law. The faculty and curriculum gave me both the legal skills I needed and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the leaders in the sports industry.”

A Meeting of Minds: The Mentorship Initiative

Enter Charlie Sarchet, a current 3L at MSU Law and President of the Sports Entertainment Law Society. Charlie has a fervent desire to make his mark in the sports entertainment industry. Since his undergrad, Charlie has wanted to combine his love of sports with his curiosity of the law. After his 1L year, he landed his dream internship in Kalamazoo, Michigan with Willis Law and their affiliated sports agency, Willis Sports Agents, where he was able to gain valuable experience from their skilled attorneys and sports agents.

With the help of MSU Law, Sarchet found himself face-to-face with Kim at MSU’s Broad Art Museum. Their initial meeting occurred at the Broad’s Resistance Training: Arts, Sports, and Civil Rights exhibit. The exhibit, which explores the shared values between artists and athletes in advancing social justice-related issues, was a perfect setting for Kim and Sarchet, both interested in sports and the law, to meet. Thus, their meeting was a casual exchange of pleasantries and a convergence of minds fueled by shared dreams and aspirations. Kim’s mentorship proved invaluable to Sarchet as he navigates the complexities of pursuing a sports entertainment law career.

The Ripple Effect: Inspiring Future Generations

The impact of mentorship extends far beyond individual aspirations; it serves as a catalyst for nurturing talent and inspiring future generations. As Kim continues to pay forward the guidance he once received, Sarchet stands poised to follow in his footsteps, equipped with the knowledge and determination to carve his niche in the sports entertainment industry.

Their journey symbolizes the essence of the MSU Law community—a thriving ecosystem where alums empower and uplift the next generation of legal professionals. It underscores the importance of mentorship in cultivating talent and fostering innovation in niche domains such as sports entertainment law.

As Daniel Kim and Charlie Sarchet continue to forge ahead on their respective paths, their story serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring legal professionals. It exemplifies the transformative power of mentorship and the unwavering spirit of those determined to leave an indelible mark on the world of law.
