Keeping opponents off base paths has been
key in 6-0 start for G-A baseball team

Pitching continued to shine for the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team as the team remained undefeated entering play April 23 with 10-5 and 4-2 victories over Gobles April 19.

Keeping opponents off the base paths has been a key for G-A, who entered play April 23 with a 6-0 record.

G-A pitchers have allowed 15 hits over 31 innings and opponents are batting just .144 against the Ram pitching staff through six games. The G-A pitching staff has issued 19 walks while striking out 53 batters.

G-A pitchers have recorded 11 one, two, three innings, with Alex Krugh and Jaden Fawcett leading the way with four each.

While the Ram pitching staff allowed seven hits and walked seven Gobles batters in the first game of a doubleheader, G-A’s offense powered the team to a 10-5 win.

Starter Nolan Brewer scattered four hits and gave up one earned run, but he walked five to go with seven strikeouts.

Jaden Fawcett finished with two innings of three-hit ball. He allowed two earned runs and two walks with three strikeouts.

Ethan Gibson had a big game at the plate, pounding out four hits with one RBI.

G-A broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run fourth inning and held on for a 4-2 win in the second game.

An RBI single by Gibson in the bottom of the fourth gave G-A the lead for good and then Alex Krugh’s RBI ground out moments later gave G-A a 4-2 lead.

Gibson earned the win in relief of Alex Krugh in the second game, allowing just one hit and one walk in one and one-third innings of work. He struck out two batters.
