Annual Meeting & Awards Ceremony planned, June 5

The Oakland County Bar Association will salute outstanding leaders in the law and celebrate another amazing year with judges, OCBA leadership, and other OCBA members at its 90th Annual Meeting &?Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the The Community House, 380 S. Bates Street in Birmingham.

During the event, the OCBA will recognize the 2024 OCBA award recipients, members achieving 40 years in legal practice in Michigan, and those who have been a loyal member of the OCBA for 50 consecutive years. In addition, outgoing OCBA President Melinda N. Deel will pass the gavel to incoming President Dean M. Googasian. He will sworn in as the bar’s 92nd president and his first action as the new leader will be to deliver remarks about his vision for the year ahead.

The 2024 award recipients include:

• Bonnie L. Beutler Outstanding New Lawyer Award—Robert M. Goldman, Law Offices of Robert Goldman PLLC

• Committee of the Year Award—Providing Access to Legal Services (PALS) Committee; chair, Mary E. Novrocki, Lakeshore Legal Aid; vice chair: Michelle L. Johnson, Legal Aid & Defender Association

• Lakeshore Legal Aid Pro Bono Award—Joseph W. Cunningham, Joseph W. Cunningham, JD, CPA, PC

• S. Gerald Gorcyca Meritorious Service to Veterans Award—James B. Zellen, Zellen & Zellen PLLC

• Allene and Martin Doctoroff Liberty Bell Award—Charles Thomas Jr., When You Vote—I Win

• Professionalism Award—Elizabeth L. Luckenbach, Dickinson Wright PLLC, and E. Powell Miller, The Miller Law Firm PC

• Distinguished Public Servant Award—Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Jeffery S. Matis

• Distinguished Service Award—Oakland County Probate Court Chief Judge Linda S. Hallmark

• Distinguished Career Achievement Award—Judge Edward Sosnick (posthumously)

Ticket for the 90th Annual Meeting &?Awards Ceremony are $95 for general registration and $75 for OCBA new lawyers (P82500+), paralegals, and students.
